* Edition of 70 copies * Continuum-collage piece by Lithuanian composer Arturas Bumšteinas created in 2015 from incidental music sampled from various Lithuanian radio drama's from the 1950's to 2000's. A strange heady brew which juxtaposes music, sound effects, rudiments of vocal expression and various acoustic instruments among others in a compelling cut-up, reminding at times of People Like Us or Dirk Schaeffer's recent work for Peter Tscherkassky's movies.
Bad Weather is a performative sound art event of a group of performers engaging with reconstructions of Baroque theater noise machines. The project started in 2017 when Lithuanian artist Arturas Bumšteinas teamed up with theater carpenter Ernestas Volodzka to re-create wind, rain, sea and thunder imitation devices, identical to the ones whose canon settled in European theater in the 17th century.Commissioned and produced by contemporary music theater production house Operomanija, Bad Weather eve…
This music was inspired by “Musikaliszer Pinkos” – a collection of more than two hundred Hebrew religious hymns and Chassidic songs compiled and published by Abraham Berenstein in the year 1927 in Wilna (nowadays Vilnius). The selection of songs from “Musikaliszer Pinkos” was used by Arturas Bumšteinas as a source of fragmentary pitch material and re-interpreted in a new context of electronic sound and cut-up composition. All music was recorded with the use of Soviet-era Russian synthesiz…
The album is a collection of works of Arturas Bumsteinas inspired by Central European cultural landscape (soundscape). It includes radio play "Wielka improwizacja" commisioned by Bôlt Records. Most parts of this composition were recorded in and around the site of the Basilian…
Epiloghi brings together two important sound works by Lithuanian composer and sound artist Arturas Bum teinas; Epiloghi. Six Ways of Saying Zangtumbtumb and Night on the Sailship. These are highly inspired pieces combining layered historical references with a captivating sound world. The first composition is a multiple homage to Luigi Russolo's manifesto 'Art of Noises' (1913), René Descartes' philosophical treatise 'Passions of the Soul' (1649) and Jacopo Peri's opera 'Dafne' (1598). Each of it…
Sleep (an attempt at trying)“ is a radio suite for vocalist, narrator, improvising ensemble and electronics. In this project Bumšteinas explored the subject of insomnia which makes it a very autobiographic project. The main sound material for “Sleep” came from the sleeping-aid and relaxation tapes, that Bumšteinas bought for himself in various fleamarkets around Europe. The course of personal therapy wasn't too successful and due to nocturnal boredom Bumšteinas started dabbling with the function…
Limited to 200 copies. 'Karlstad' was commissioned by Dutch new music ensemble DASH! as a remix track for their CD release 'Bangalore' in 2008. Bum teinas took very short snippets (no longer than 1 second) of breathing noises of the ensemble's vocalists and used it as loops to build the instrumental harmonies upon them. Short remix version of this 'remix' with guest violinist Lina Lapelyt was featured in Wire Tapper 22 compilation. The title of this piece is derived from the sofa brand of…
