JANDEK

For those of you who may not know who he is, Jandek is simply known as music's great enigma. In short, he's released (so far) 40 albums since 1978 on his own Corwood Industries label. I'll leave the musical descriptions to those who've actually heard him (check the links below) but is generally filed under "outsider." The album covers are all very minimal, just a photo and song titles. The only way to contact him is through Corwood Industries -- whose only contact info is just a PO box in Houston -- but any correspondence sent there only generates a plain typed catalog of Jandek music for sale. Nobody knew anything about him.

Six & Six
Originally released in 1981, JANDEK'S second album stands as an incredible document of the formative stages of his cracked genius. The musical elements are almost catatonic: 9 songs drift by as a series of slight variations on several desolate, untuned acoustic guitar phrases. First time on vinyl in over 25 years. Old-style tip on jacket. LIMITED!
Chair Beside A Window
The grainy, haunted beauty of Jandek's early work went through many phases, never quite as varied and multi-faceted as the material on his 4th album, Chair Beside A Window released in 1982. The relatively wide range of Chair Beside A Window gives insight into the influences on the seemingly impenetrable Jandek sound. Hearing the blown-out harmonica bluster of 'You Think You Know How To Score' it's hard not to imagine it as the Jandek equivalent of a Dylan phase, however insanely translated.…
Ready for the House
The 1978 release of Corwood Industries Ready For The House, began one of the most compelling, disturbed, and singular legacies in musical history. In the 30 years since this unique debut, Jandek has released 53 albums of mournful, atonal music that continues to defy classification and accessibility. And while the past three decades of intense productivity have yielded a depth of discussion, a handful of legendary live performances and even a film documentary, no amount of time or experien…
Camber Sands Sunday
Recorded live at Camber Sands Holiday Park, England on May 14, 2006. Featuring RICHARD YOUNGS (bass guitar) & ALEX NEILSON (drums)"At this 2006 concert, we have Jandek with a sympathetic rhythm section, and like a rhythm section that would back, say, a Lightnin’ Hopkins or a John Lee Hooker, they adapt themselves to the artist’s flow and provide a kind of pillowy environment or canvas on which he can do his thing. To give you an analogy from the free jazz world, some of the recent Jandek p…
Later On
The third Jandek album from 1981, reissued for the first time ever. "Another installment in the digitization of the Jandek back catalog, and for those who have never heard his earliest records because of their scarcity, you can now own another piece of the Corwood catalog without having to fend off those cutthroat members of the Jandek 'community'. This record, like Jandek's first (Ready for the House), is comprised of not just basically one chord throughout, but as far as I can tell he barely e…
Six and Six
2005 remastered version. The 2nd Corwood album, reissued on CD. Originally issued in 1981, this was the first actual album to be entitled to an artist named Jandek (the first Corwood album, 0739, was credited to the Units -- although that practice has been abandoned in the CD domain, an epic travesty in the minds of a few hardliners). The cover features a crude black & white photobooth-style portrait of the man we've come to assume as the singer, depicted at his most youthful, ready to accompany…
