View
View was first presented as part of a solo exhibition at the jennjoy gallery in san francisco. the show also included paintings, drawings, and a silent video work. for the installation, i asked jenn to record for me the sounds of the View from one of the gallery windows. "sounds were recorded from ledge just above radiator on various days and times in april" sometimes the window was open, somethimes closed. i used fragments of these recordings as both a compositional cue as well as the entire so…
ear(th)
beautiful catalogue + cd edition, the cd contains a field recording of the installation ear(th), which was a collaboration with two scientists from cal tech - Ann Polsenberg-Thomas, and Mark Simons. It was comissioned by the Williamson Gallery at Art center college of design for The tender land festival. The CD was d…
Le chemin du paradis
Another installment from the Fario label in their attempt to bring together two artists. Usually these CDs consist of three tracks: one  collaborative track and one by each artist solo. For this fifth CD two Vital Weekly household names show up: Francisco Lopez and Steve Roden. Let is discuss the solo pieces first. In Roden's solo piece, the rubbing and playing of everyday objects is the central point of attention. It seems an extension to his work 'Schindler House', which was released last year…
Japan
Originally projected to be sold exclusively at our concerts during our tour in Japan in November 2001 this split CD of Steve Roden and me will be released on TRENTE OISEAUX, along with Steve's upcoming CD for our label, because we found ourselves to fond of the pieces it contains to limit it to this use. While the three pieces differ very much in style (mine being made of noises exclusively, while the two by Steve are using concrete sounds), they work together very well.
