ErstAEU is a new CD imprint, launched by Erstwhile Records to help document the work of young American experimental musicians working in a post-electroacoustic vein. Kevin Parks originally hails from New York. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Composition and Music Technologies at The University of Virginia. After working briefly at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in …
Sinter
Something very cool about erstaeu 002's existing in such a different world than its numeric predecessor (and 003 is altogether different as well). After the sublime compressive intensity of "Dystonia Duos", "Sinter" injects vast amounts of oxygen into the room, air swirling and echoing in huge spaces, light shimmering and hazy. In metallurgical terms, sintering is the making of objects from powder and "powdery", especially with a metallic connotation, isn't the worst term you could use for much …
Taku Unami/Devin DiSanto
A collaborative CD between Devin DiSanto and Taku Unami, a recording of a live performances that took place inside AMPLIFY 2015: exploratory at Fridman Gallery in Nyc. "Devin DiSanto lives in Brooklyn and develops performances, actions, and audio recordings that revolve primarily around the material attributes of a sound, particularly the plurality of its signification. His projects start from the premise that space is listened for as much as seen and heard before it comes into view. It doesn't …
Keith Rowe - Taku Unami
ErstLive 006 is from the duo of Keith Rowe and Taku Unami, and took place on the first night of the Amplify 2008: light festival in Tokyo in September 2008. This was the first set they'd ever played together. Keith Rowe: guitar, electronics. Taku Unami: computer with objects, contraguitar, mandolin.
September
This was the much anticipated final set of Keith Rowe's week in NYC, following five duo sets with various collaborators. It took place on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and the Manhattan atmosphere was uniquely charged. As he almost always does, Rowe rose to the challenge of the occasion, creating a moving, dense, and virtuosic set in the lineage of his 2004 set with Burkhard Beins in Berlin (ErstLive 001) and his 2008 solo set in Tokyo (ErstLive 007). The recording quality is remarkable, b…
Untitled
This was the 10 PM set on 9/11/11, and makes for a perfect pair with the Rowe solo - two very different extremes. Where the Rowe set is in your face visceral, Unami and Malfatti created a gentle atmosphere within the pitch-black room (lit solely by Unami's visuals) and an overarching cumulative feeling in the listener. The too-perfect-to-be-scripted intro and outro frame a set that's almost not there, a radical recording even by ultra-minimal standards
Musical Surgery
**2020 stock, limited to 300 numbered copies in A5 sleeve** From the sleeve notes: Mixed on february 1982 at Sound Recycling Terminal in Florence and printed in four audio cassettes only for participants in the experiment. KDK
The double-CD "KDK" (named that way after the names of their actual and former members: Kundalini, Devis G. and Kalamun) could be perceived as a sort of “The Best of”, but indeed it is more a sort of sonik biographical story, a tale made of gathered weird tracks from 1993 to 2018. Here, for the first time collected in a proper and official CD issue, remastered by Devis G. himself, you will find their most notorious tunes Comandante Bruno And Confesso Tutto! But you may find some very hard to fin…

"This stuff was previously produced by the band only as tape in a very limited edition of just 100 copies and never reissued... until now! This legendary tape is finally re-released as a 2CD set. First disc features Ritual 00, which is an endless trancy loop used for a Bhakti Yoga rite which can be used also as background for ritual concentration... The second disc is entitled The failure of Jesus, Visible Obscurity, Garbage, the City and the Death... For sure the more obscure and rare Ain Soph …

Detaching From Satan Remastered
** 2021 Stock. With 2 Bonus Tracks - Pentagon Society and Vivid Eyes In The Dark ** The spirit of Paul Chain's music is definitely identifiable to anyone who is immersed in the mysticism of Pentagram, Trouble, Sleep and others of the emerging scene of the early to mid 80s, but where usually a few little nuances make these acts distinct, PC has staked out territory all his own with an extremely exaggerated variant of the sub-genre that has lost none of its mystique in the passing decades. 2017 Re…

The Nazgul
Lost-in-time kosmische/kraut/avant-garde artifact produced by Toby Robinson, aka The Mad Twiddler, circa 1975 for his private Pyramid label.  From the moment they emerged during the mid 90’s, mystery has swirled around Psi-Fi’s six Krautrock gems. Each, the label claimed, had been recorded for the long lost Pyramid label, based in Cologne during the 1970’s. Embraced and loved by many, others cried hoax. Some ventured further, implicating the perpetrator - the voice behind this assembly of drifti…

La Marca de Anubis + El Cantor de Jazz
Originally released in 1982 on the DRO label, La Marca De Anubis was the debut album by Los Iniciados, an obscure project related to legendary Spanish synth-pop band Aviador Dro. Always shrouded in mystery, Los Iniciados decided to hide their identities behind masks. The only visible and confirmed member was Arco Iris (Aviador Dro member Marta Cervera). According to rumors, behind the other nicknames were Biovac N (Servando Carballar, founder of Aviador Dro and DRO label head) and members of Spa…
