He also released 'fenneszPLAYS', a 3" CD originally issued by Mego but now on Jim O'Rourke's new label, Moikai. Fennesz has also made various contributions to compilation CDs, including the awesome 'Surf' on 'DECAY' (Ash International 3.9) and is a member of MIMEO, fixed line up orchestra alongside Keith Rowe, Kaffe Matthews, Jerome Noetinger, Phil Durrant, Peter Rehberg, Thomas Lehn, Rafael To…
2025 stock ** "Alfred 23 Harth, reeds, kaosspad. Hans Joachim Irmler, organ. Günter Müller, iPods, electronics. The last time Harth and Müller met was in 1987 as part of a quintet at the Festival Willisau, including Andres Bosshard, Phil Minton and Sonny Sharrock. Exactly 20 years later, Alfred Harth, now based in Seoul, South Korea, asked Günter Müller to do some recordings on a visit to Switzerland while traveling in Germany and Italy. Several days before, Harth recorded with Hans Joachim Irml…
Done by ibitsu, March 2008. Mastered at Piethopraxis, Köln, September 2008. Artwork by Soma, July 2008. A curious and highly fine tuned digital composition emerging from somewhere in Japan. Starting life nearly a decade ago, this piece was refined, restarted, thrown away, though lost and finally adjusted and completed in March of this year. A shimmering sub rumble counters hi-end tweaks, like an acid drenched take on the spirit of early trente oiseaux releases. 'foolproof betters fools bettering…
Bianchi began to produce music in 1979, at the peak of the industrial scene since 1980 using electronic equipment with the avowed goal 'to produce technological sounds and in such a way to work on complete realizing of the modern decadence,' but his works harked back to the musique concrete of the 1950s. This CD is a return to his early work. Maurizio Bianchi/M.B.: archaic waves, ancient loops, primitive electronics.
Black Sea is the much-anticipated new album from Christian Fennesz, his first since Venice. Fennesz’s career has come a long way since Instrument, his debut for Mego in 1995, and his first solo album Hotel Paral.lel which followed in 1998. Endless Summer [Mego, 2001] brought him to a much wider audience and Venice underlined his mastery of melody and dissonance. His songs usually embody the skilful application and manipulation of dense sonic textures with a genuine feel for the live, and real-ti…
Like collaborator Andrew Chalk, Vikki Jackman's compositions retain a calm thread of memory. The album's tranquil passages seep into your brain as if staring at the sun and closing your eyes tight, following the flashes into your childhood, with the seared edges blurring the line between memory and reality. Whispering Pages floats on a film of imperceptibility almost too thin to grasp. Her tones are translucent at their meatiest but often less so, and though the pieces are evocatively titled the…
As innovative as they are influential, Kraftwerk's contribution to the development of electronic music since their formation in 1970 remains unsurpassed. Having inspired everyone from Bowie to Coldplay, Siouxsie to Radiohead, this bizarre collective have also proven partly responsible for entire genres to develop -- electronica, techno and synth-pop to name but three. This DVD reviews the career and music of Kraftwerk, from their inception in the late 1960s (as pre-Kraftwerk ensemble Organizatio…

Suite: Live In Liverpool follows Philip Jeck's acclaimed collaboration with Gavin Bryars and Alter Ego on a new version of The Sinking of the Titanic. It is the companion release to his latest solo album, Sand; a set of five new compositions that highlight Jeck's mastery of vinyl manipulation, personal and collective memories. During the past year, Jeck has refined and consolidated his unique sound, playing superb sets at the Faster Than Sound festival and at York Minster for Spire. Suite... is …

Drifting Depths is a new improvised piece made on a harmonica being processed through Pauline's Expanded Instrum…
The second Mirror album Andrew Chalk and Christoph Heemann produced together in 1999, originally released as a limited edition vinyl LP, is now available on CD for the first time. Andrew Chalk and Christoph Heemann think that it is a very boring idea to try to find descriptions for their music (and most music in general). Why is the music there after all? If they wanted to make their artistic statements in language, they would work as writers. They like to say it in sound, so if you want to find…
Every once in a while I like to post something that doesn't fit the theme of this page and give ya'all a glimpse at some of my all time favorites. The spread the gambit. From punk to... early Krautrock. Popol Vuh was the creation of Florian Fricke. Intially a themed project - Popol Vuh means "Council Book" or "Book of the Community" and is a book containing mythological narratives and a genealogy of the rulers of the Post-Classic Quiché Maya kingdom of highland Guatemala. Musician extraordinare …
2CD feat 4 unpublished tracks based on "Parabolic studies" (SR174) the idea was to ask other musicians, of different generations, to attempt a new mix on the basis of these 8 studies: Oval, Main/Robert Hampson, Philip Jeck and Henri Pousseur himself.
This is the 5th part of the complete experimental and electronic music by the composer - after Liège à Paris (1977), Eight parabolic studies (1972), Four parabolic mixes (1972-2001, Mixed music (1966-70) and before Narrative voices and electronic (1960-1982), Paraboles-Mix avec Leçons d'Enfer (1972-1999) and Experimental Electronic and Noise (1954-61). Here, 5 rare pieces that come from 5 decades and performed by Rohan de Saram (Quatuor Arditti), Evert van Tright (who played mainly Stockhausen),…

This is shining and pure electronic music. adult life continues Carlos Giffoni's work in slow-building drones but he also imbues these new compositions with subtle structure, melodic sequences and blind-siding rhythmic pulses which recall the many pioneers of electronic composition, among them Cluster, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk, and Tangerine Dream. The caustic melding of foreboding abstraction and lively pulse raises adult life to a paradigm of the breathing and the immaculate, a strange set of dichot…
For the past eight years Andrew Paine and Richard Youngs have met on almost every Sunday and recorded music. Mauve Dawn is the result of ten meetings during 2004. Its nine tracks feature processed epinette des vosges, glockenspiel, vintage keyboards and guitars, alongside granularly-synthesized household objects hacked together with resonated voices and filtered bells in a stereo field heavy on ring modulation. One part of the Mauve trilogy, this is an instrumental album of classic length.
Debut album from the duo of Richard Youngs and Tirath Singh Nirmala (nee John Clyde-Evans) that has the pair creating a bucolic minimalist meditation. Side one interchangeably features hammered strings, gong/cymbal washes, droning vocals, and breathed shackuhachi/flutes. The second side leads with a melodious encounter before delving further into a glimmering psychedelia with sawed strings, fluttering reed organ and electronic drift. The results resemble a non-western approach to traditional mus…
After some twenty years in the wilderness when Storm Bugs were known only to a handful of aficionados, the DIY electronic duo were rediscovered in 2000 when they were included on the deliciously dodgy but possibly seminal bootleg LP I Hate the Pop Group. A CD of the Bugs finer moments followed shortly after on the reactivated Snatch Tapes label. Another review suggested that.. 'they were spiritual forefathers to Oval and today's Clicks & Cuts generation'. Fusetron are pleased to present a furthe…
Dutch sound artist Roel Meelkop has been mining the same territory since the early ’80s, when he started the influential sonic art ensemble THU20. This transitional stage had Meelkop formulating and organizing his ideas on sound and contemplating how best to realize them. But it was only during the mid-’90s, through numerous collaborations with fellow electro-acoustic conspirators, such as Frans De Waard and Peter Duimelinks (who, together with Meelkop, form electronic rhythm group GOEM), along …
