Throughout his career, Fox (who died in Cologne in 2008), focused on sound as a fundamental artistic material. Many of his most important sound works were realized long before terms such as "sound art" or "audio art" became widely known. This recording, The Labyrinth Scored for 11 Cats (1977), is now recognized as an early classic of the audio art genre. It is one of Fox's…
Was ist das (Piece No.2)
Rare Edition by  conceptual artist artist Arthur Köpcke (1928-1977) who was one of the most relevant German Fluxus artists.  Köpcke’s Piece No. 2 is a very complex fusion of music, poetry, and visual art. This piece represents what is very characteristic for the Fluxus movement: the destruction of barriers between music, poetry, and visual arts - or any other discipline. Between 1963 and 1965, the key work reading/work-pieces-manuscript emerged, marking a turning point in Köpcke’s oeuvre. While …

See this sound
An interdisciplinary compendium of audiovisual culture, this very nice art catalogue explores the connections between image and sound in art, media and perception. "Artists today take an engagement with the sound of this world for granted. The former predominance of the visual has meanwhile been replaced by a multifaceted interplay of image and sound. Six Films (1966-1969)
Die Schachtel in collaboration with O' artspace proudly presents a deluxe DVD featuring six experimental films by New York-based composer, photographer and filmmaker Phill Niblock from the late-1960s. Anybody familiar with Niblock would probably characterize his work by the sound of his long, sonorous drones, producing rich overtones usually combined with a visual element -- since before moving into composition, Niblock was an active photographer and filmmaker. While he usually is known f…

1984
When the cassette 1984 was released on Chimik Communications in 1984, the Nihilist Spasm Band's last record was the 1978 Vol. 2. Although the band was very active at the time, playing every Monday night at Forest City Gallery in London, Ontario, since the mid-'70s, it very seldom recorded. 1984 was an attempt at documenting these weekly sessions. Tracks were edited from domestic recording tapes, therefore the sound quality is poor, bootleg-like at times (like on "Are You OK Bill? July 30 1984").…
Pendules magntiques / Le siecle de Kafka
Beautiful edition! Takis was born in 1925 in Athens. Preferring, as a matter of principle, to teach himself rather study in a institution, he left Greece in 1954 and lived as a citizen of the world, traveling through Europe and the USA. Some of his earliest manifestations in the 1940s consisted of explosions carried out in open places. His first Signals date from 1954: they were rods consisting of piano wires which created musical vibrations as they stuck against each other in the wind. In fact …

Jean Tinguely
Awesome and obscure release, the music on this disc is a collection of awesome noisy sound works establishing Tinguely in the tradition of Luigi Russolo’s noise machines or John Cage’s Imaginary Landscapes. Tinguely’s sculptures rotating parts create awkward rhythm patterns, metallic rattlings and loud percussion sounds, more often than not on the verge of falling apart. Similar sounds can be heard in Jean-Marc Vivenza’s robust take on ‘bruitisme’ or Pierre Bastien’s self-build mecano instrument…
