On tape from the Judson days
"'On tape from the Judson days. Remember? When you made these things at home, on the best equipment you or your other poor friends could find? Electronic music from the 1960s. And you had that Japanese taperecorder with built-in mike; indeed that was the only piece of furniture on your tatami floor on the Lower East Side that summer of 1961.' This compact disc presents tape music recorded between 1962 and 1963 for the friends meeting once a week in a loft in NYC. The first track, 'Lucinda Pastim…

Metal meditations
"Metal Meditations is the culmination of many years experience and experiment with the properties of resonant metal objects, whether intended for music for not." Philip Corner. One side is taken from a 1974 performance at Merce Cunningham's studio, performed by David Behrman (electronics and performer) & others. There is also a 1975 performance with Bill Fontana and Corner ("long metal pipe with active microphone) as well as a short version from the Avant Garde Festival in Cambridge, MA, 1978.
Gong +
2002 release. Gong + presents three previously-unpublished compositions by Philip Corner recorded in New York City, 1974. "Metal Meditations with Listening Center," a 29-minute long piece, is a collaboration between Philip Corner and Bill Fontana. At that time Bill Fontana was very interested in the resonance properties of every object, putting his ear to everything, and sometimes recording what he called "Listening Centers," a microphone placed in a resonating space (for example a jar, or a pip…
3 pieces for gamelan ensemble
'Gamelan' means for Phillip Corner more than the name for Indonesian orchestras. The composer uses the word the way, apart from Europe, someone might say 'symphony'. A basis of making music, adding a few wonderful ideas from the Orient: a precise relation between the scale of time and that of musical space; a simple formal concept, expressed directly through sensual attractiveness; some freedom, or mystery, added to the precision. 'Gamelan' is the name of the first piece. In 1975 at Livingston C…

Thee Films 1950s-1960s
When writer William S. Burroughs and artist Brion Gysin met Anthony Balch at the Beat Hotel in Paris at the start of the '60s they knew they had the ideal person to assist them in translating the ideas they had explored in experimental art forms to film. Balch began his movie-making career collaborating with Burroughs on two shorts 'Towers Open Fire' and 'The Cut Ups.' The former is a relatively straightforward attempt to capture the essence of Burroughs writing on film, utilizing key themes and…
Flux De Bouche
Jaap Blonk is a self-taught composer, voice performer and sound poet. His unfinished studies in physics, mathematics and musicology mainly created a penchant for activities in a Dada vein, as did several unsuccessful jobs in offices and other well-organized systems. He took up saxophone and started to compose music, at first mainly jazz pieces and music for experimental theatre. In reciting poetry, especially the works of Antonin Artaud, Lucebert and Kurt Schwitters, he discovered the directness…
Ja Ja Ja Ja Ja, Nee Nee Nee Nee Nee
This CD contains Joseph Beuys' sound work, A tape piece in which the above words are repeated on and on resulting in a hypnotising soundtrack, not entirely without tongue in cheek: with repetition of "Ja" (yes) and "Nee" (no), Beuys changes the intonation of the words to achieve a sense of intensity. Featuring Henning Christiansen, Recorded at Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Dec. 14, 1968. CD in digipack with 32 paged booklet (in German).

This monumental piece consists of 1008 pages of uniform size divided into 4 Opus’s (Opus 17a and b and Opus 18a and b). Each Opus is comprised of 36 poems, …
Private recordings 1984/1993
The CD Stories from Paolino's Tapes consists of taped letters (in English) which Feyerabend recorded for his last wife, Grazia Borrini-Feyerabend, during his stays in Switzerland, Berkeley and Rome. These recordings, interesting also because of their curious mix of Viennese and Californian idioms, reveal another side of the philosopher. Feyerabend's views on a bad translation of Brecht/Weill's Dreigroschenoper, his comments on certain nuances of Verdi's Falstaff, his own translation of Xenophane…

Exposé
Based on a series of 33 musical ideas written, printed, framed and 'exposed' in a recent installation in Milan, Exposé is the first of a new cycle of works as well as the result of Alessandro Bosetti's fascination with speech loops. The mesmerizing voice of Audrey Chen, endlessly repeating the same sentence over the entire duration of each piece, is full of musical nuances, and it rewards close attention. The result is a weird and fascinating experience, that takes the listener through a surreal…
