2011 release ** "Last effort of 2011 for Gianluca Becuzzi this Nothing Is What It Seems, which is published at the end of the year by Silentes with a splendid graphic based on photos by Stefano Gentile and artwork by Andrea Marutti; Claudio Rocchetti completes the team of collaborators contributing with “sound objects” in a couple of tracks. All the rest (composition, production and mastering) is by Becuzzi. Nothing is as it seems tells us the title, and leads us to think that the sounds we hear come from who knows where and are used in a very different way from their origins… field recordings, instrument notes, whispers, voices and whatever else is mixed, crystallized and recomposed to form sounds that progressively change into real sound flows that sometimes drag you towards a dark and powerful ecstasy, at other times freeze in a cold stasis that leaves you breathless; at the end there is also a dazed digital dub that changes perspective and offers an excellent conclusion. The whole thing travels for over seventy minutes on the border between Ligeti, the least canonical ambient you can imagine, concrete music and the “installation” style of a certain Thomas Koner, involving emotionally without ever forcing the hand."
