Norway's Smalltown Supersound label is just one of those imprints that you have to keep an eye on, because if not you're sure to miss out on some nugget of psyched avant-metal or North European disco that you'll be kicking yourself over neglecting in 10 years time. 'Smalltown Supersound On Fire' is a very handy and rather essential compendium of forthcoming releases on the label, including tracks from Arp, Meanderthals, Diskjokke and Tussle alongside remixes from the likes of Prins Thomas and Bjørn Torkse. The indefinable quality of the label is put to the test with the opening disc running from Arp's electronic ballad 'From A Balcony Overlooking The Sea' to the brilliantly uninhibited fusions of Mungolian Jet Set's 16th Rebels Of Mung feat. Lindstrøm and Dominique Leone's 'Clairevoyage' crossing between many disco borders. Over on the next disc Prins Thomas makes an appearance on a wicked remix of Tussle's 'Night Of The Hunter', but the picks of the bunch have to be Nisennenmondai's No(r)-Wave beauty 'Destination Tokyo' sounding like it's been frozen fresh in a glacier since 1982 or the mind meltingly brilliant and totally unforeseen Bjørn Torkse remix of Sunburned Hand Of The Man, lending the mid-west Psyche-ateers a dubbed disco revision that we can't get enough of. You know how much we love this label, and if you've not checked it out yet this is the perfect opportunity.
