Pluton Helios or Apollo Helios? When Massimo Pupillo and ILIOS visited the ancient site of Eleusis, Greece in 2019, Ploutonion (the entrance to the underworld) was their final destination. Recordings of the Ploutonion project started right after and were heavily inspired from the juxtaposition of the ancient and current state of things. The entrance to the underworld does not produce any poisonous emissions anymore, unlike the nearby intoxicated lake which was once dedicated to Demeter and now forms a wasteland.
The ex-industrial panorama serves as a decadent background to the fleeing kore and the headless goddess. Synthesised tunes sustain lightweight ghostly voices, an atavistic playground hosts children shadows, screeching birds are overwhelmed by the noxious exhalation"
