There's hardly a shortage of meandering spiritual free folk in the world at the moment, but the reason I have a soft spot for Australian outfit Brother of the Occult Sisterhood (BotOS for short) is that they effortly make music that I find genuinely calming. That's not to say it's boring either, no the music they make is like antidote for a diseased soul and through a Jewelled Antler or Fonal influenced jangling free-folk fog we are treated to some quite intense and personal jams. 'Preying in Circles' is in my opinion their finest moment to date, pipping the phenomenal Digitalis released 'Goodbye' to the post with its almost glossy production and tightness. There is a rural feeling to this, and unlike some of the cdrs they've released there is a coherence and structure to the album as it rises and falls with a distinct and well thought out narrative. It's not the most obvious of records and without a doubt needs some time to sink into the cracks in the mind, but give it time and trust me you'll be rewarded. Lovely stuff, best accompanied by hot tea and good friends. (Boomkat)
