The 2nd of two keenly awaited vinyl EPs supporting the ambitious 32 hour, 16GB microSD card release of Terre Thaemlitz's 'Soulnessless' - this time featuring a killer reworking from Terre's DJ Sprinkles Alias, plus a sublime 18 minute Piano excerpt of the original. With 'Meditation on Wage Labor and the Death of the Album (Sprinkles' Unpaid Overtime)' on the A-side Terre returns to the deeply arresting New York/New Jersey minimalist House approach which made his 2009 LP - 'Midtown 120 Blues' as DJ Sprinkles - Resident Advisor's #1 album of that year. Sombre yet radiant piano notes are draped over wide-ass, exceptionally tactile bassline and a lattice of rippling congas, all sealed with that brittle, uncoated, honest production finish which reveals much more than the plethora of preened and over-earnest examples from the contemporary European scene. The sublime B-side features an edit of the original, 29-hour long solo piano improvisation: 18 minutes of solo piano minimalism measured with a Cagean sense of space and time dilation. It's a deeply cathartic piece of music, exposed in sweet relief against the remix and somehow reiterating the unique specialness of piano solos on vinyl.
