One of the rarest & most legendary electronic privately pressed album from Italy has been finally reissued.
If only its existence were known, this would be the so-called holy-grail of obscure electronic / experimental / musique concrete albums!! Issued in 1979 in an extremely limited private release - with (clumsily) hand-written titles on plain white hand-numbered sleeves and a xeroxed sheet with notes pasted on the back cover - by italian composer Corrado Canepa of superb pieces of tightly conceived but primitive sounding and often evocative and puzzling electro-acoustic music and text-sound composition.
Corrado Canepa is such a kind of musician, whose sound projects are self-realized, creating directly on the tape the sound chosen for every composition. The global control of the whole process of artistic production allowed by the electronic instruments offers him the possibility of realizing his conception of composition as freedom and «handicraft».
Syntheseis, a collection of eight sound scenarios projected & produced in 1979 with the collaboration of Cristina Rossi, is a good example of his aesthetics: he didn’t use computer but only less sophisticated analogical instruments employed at the best of their potentialities: his research means a challenge to the limitations of instruments he often invented & built.
Syntheseis means etymologically «combinations, mixtures», simply: «compositions». We can listen together (electronically elaborated) the oldest traditional instruments – voice, Pan Flute, drums, xylophone, performed by Cristina Rossi –, noises extracted from contemporary materials & objects – plastic tubes, polystyrene, plates, telephones – and electronic synthesized sounds. A peculiar research in stereophonic sound spatialization is a fundamental part of composition.
