*2022 stock. In process of stocking* Published anonymously in 1955, Systema Munditotius is the title of the first mandala by 20th century psychiatrist & visionary Carl Gustav Jung. The diagram drawn “wholly unconscious of what it meant" in 1916 is symbolically related to the creative, cosmogonic vision and “portrays the antinomies of the microcosm within the macrocosmic world and its antinomies.”
Premiered at Roulette in 2017, “Systema Munditotius, vol. 1” is a mysterious and hypnotic musical suite from NYC sound alchemist Jeremiah Cymerman, three years in the making. Scored for four clarinets, two percussionists and electronics, Systema is at once a meticulously crafted piece of twenty first century music that pays tribute to the work of Carl Jung and simultaneously a maddening exploration of Cymerman’s musical unconscious. The result is a sprawling hour long aural experience that takes the listener to a world of mystery and labyrinthine sound design.
“The recordings heard here feel less like formal composition or even a traditional album and more like the soundtrack to my unconscious, a series of stream of consciousness sound realizations based in abstract shapes and gestures. In this music, piece to piece, I hear no ends or beginnings, just sound and shapes for the sake of sound and shapes”.
