The Reoccurrence' represents Arek Gulbenkoglu's first solo full length release in almost ten years following 'Points Alone' (Impermanent Recordings, 2005). Arek is a Melbourne-based musician who has collaborated with artists such as Adam Sussmann, Dale Gorfinkel, Will Guthrie and was formerly a member of Dworzec. 'The Reoccurrence' involves a rigorous process of observation, intervention and documentation of different environments, where notions of instrumental virtuosity and extended technique are replaced with something more obtuse. Sounds are captured at various levels of granularity and materiality. From a knitting needle resonating against a snare drum stand to the sounds of a steel and wood modernist staircase, to non-musical interventions in large public spaces which result in subtle sonic ripples that are captured and documented. 'The Reoccurrence' is an exercise in comprehending the sonic patterns that emerge when we give the space and time to listen.
