The Acid Lands, created by the Prague-based Opening Performance Orchestra, was first heard in public in 2014 at the Movement-Sound-Space festival in Ostrava, to mark the centenary of William S. Burroughs's birth. The piece was performed live by Opening Performance Orchestra and their guests, the theremin player Martina Potucková, and the poet, musician and performer Pavel Z as the narrator.
The studio version of The Acid Lands was made in late 2019/early 2020 in collaboration with Bill Laswell a…
* Edition of 100 * “The first two weeks of lockdown I was sitting in my kitchen paralyzed just like everyone else, following the news anxiously. When boredom and anxiety set in and to keep myself sane I started to record audio off my Twitter feed; people playing their instruments at home (in *their* kitchens), anti-vaxxer car demos, people shouting & swearing at each other in streets & supermarkets. I made little sketches, loops and songs from these samples combined with some of my own home and …
* Edition of 200 * Chicagoan Brian Case is returning to Hands in the Dark with his fourth release under his own name, Parallel Voices.
In a sense, the album is elliptical: Whilst, musically speaking, the American artist comes back to the start of his solo work by producing a fully instrumental album, he also delivers a story which informs the landscape Case lives in now, and always imbibes it with a sense of tension and dark undercurrents. You might think at first that the voice he uses is abstr…
With a 50 year plus music career, Michael Rother is one of modern German music’s great trailblazers. A founder member of NEU! with Klaus Dinger, Rother helped to pioneer Kosmische Musik. There was also the Harmonia project with Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius of Cluster which led to him becoming the original first choice of David Bowie to play guitar on ‘Heroes’, although that promising partnership never became reality. When NEU! split after three albums in 1975, Rother embarked on an…
Long anticipated vinyl re-issue of a concert that took place at the I-and-E Festival at Trinity College, Dublin in 2006 by Keith Rowe (legendary AMM guitarist and one of the founding fathers of European improvised music) and Mark Wastell (pivotal London based experimentalist). The duo had formed the previous year for a show at ErstQuake Festival in New York and this was to be their second, and only, other performance together. "Keith Rowe and Mark Wastell - This last performance balanced the eve…
The instrumentation is deliberately reduced to the essentials: monolithic drums and analog synthesizers. In this desire for simplicity, meticulous care was taken in the sound recording, then the recording benefited from the work of two experts in the alchemy of sounds: David Fenech and Patrick Muller. Véronique Vilhet: drums. Dominique Grimaud: synthesizers.“A sonic nugget in the shape of rock... Flamboyantly artless and irresistibly direct.” - Julian Cowley, The Wire

Collaboration between Richard Pinhas and Tatsuya Yoshida. Richard Pinhas, founder of '70s legends Heldon, is one of France's best known experimental musicians. He is a key figure in development of rock music processing with electronic music. Yoshida Tatsuya is one of the most important musicians of the Japanese experimental music scene, spearheading at least a half dozen of that country's most important groups, including Ruins, Sax Ruins, Koenji Hyakkei, and Korekyojinn.
Recorded live at several…
After his debut album for Discrepant (Papillon, 2013) and a couple of tapes for Dinzu Artefacts (Aqueducts, 2017) and Sucata tapes (Cercueill Flottant, 2019) Papillon aka Gonçalo F. Cardoso returns to the wax treatment for one last hurrah into the depths of tropical disquiet. Taking liberties from Henri Charriere’s book sequel of the same name, Banco, the audio reader here dives straight up/down into a world of random dream logic. The same themes of nightmare vs paradisiac dreams are present yet…
* Triple gatefold package with full color collages, and 60 x 90 cm poster * Matmos’ practice of creative constraint has made them one of the most consistently exciting acts in electronic music. The duo of M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel are well known for their long-standing practice of sampling unusual sound sources and experimenting with conceptual restrictions. As a couple in life and music for more than 25 years, Schmidt and Daniel have a particularly democratic approach to music making, each t…
The Bit is the second recorded collaboration between Aidan Baker (Nadja / Hypnodrone Ensemble), Simon Goff (Jóhann Johannsson / Hildur Gudnadottir) and Thor Harris (Swans, Shearwater, Thor & Friends). Following on from 2017’s Noplace album, The Bit treads a similar path in terms of the recording process as the trio spent a day improvising at Voxton Studios in Berlin whilst on a European tour. The result was then edited and moulded into six hypnotic tracks that ebb and flow with beauty and ease.

Entangled Visions is the inaugural release of the homonym just-born Experimental Electronics label, based in Italy. Eight moments from eight different artists united by the same goals: disorientation and alienation through sound research and experimentalism.
Italian sound artist Giulio Aldinucci introduces the release with "Prima del Mare", immediately marking the concept of this work. Deconstructed rythms and Lanark Artefax-like synthesis are presented by the German producer Shō, the storm afte…

**500 copies, blue vinyl. Very few copies available** The long awaited vinyl reissue of NWWs classic third album is finally available. Nurse With Wound began as a trio, but by Merzbild Schwet, its third album, Steve Stapleton's singular vision took over, with no compromises to other band members. As such it can be considered the first fully realized NWW. record and is a far more mature effort than its predecessors. Stapleton's editing techniques come to the fore, with abrupt transitions, quirky …
**500 copies, yellow vinyl. Very few copies available** The long awaited vinyl reissue of NWWs classic second album is finally available. Following on the footsteps of Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table, To the Quiet Men From a Tiny Girl was Nurse With Wound's second album and shows the group refining itself from the debut and adding a lot more dynamics. The record starts off with the very short Umbrella Link, really just some guitar riffing from engineer Nicky Rodgers as a concession for NWW.…
* Edition of 200 * After "September Winds", Giuseppe Verticchio/Nimh and Daniela Gherardi are back as Twist of Fate with their newest offering entitled "Where the Dusk has no End". Sounds and atmospheres constantly bordering shadows and light, in a sort of infinite twilight where thin rays of sun violate the looming darkness, drawing landscapes with fragile and indefinite contours, sound watercolours swaying through Ambient, Shoegaze and 'drumless Post Rock', alternating atmospheres - now darker…
FEN is an improvised music quartet. Comprising Otomo Yoshihide (Japan), Yuen Chee Wai (Singapore), Yan Jun (China) and Ryu Hankil (Korea), it was formed in 2008 in Marseille.
The initial intent of forming FEN was not based on a particular pursuit of any specific form of musical aesthetic, but rather to develop and deepen the improvised music networks of Asia. This desire was furthered by these 4 individuals, each with their individual endeavours to organise music-related activities and bridge co…
Bourbonese Qualk were an experimental music group from England who where active from 1979 until 2003. The group were always obsessively and uncompromisingly focused on controlling their work – they ran their own record label, recording studio, tour organisation and music venue (the legendary ‘Ambulance Station’) – they refused to integrate into the commercial music racket turning down publishing deals from major labels – stubbornly opting for total independence.
Bourbonese Qualk were also known …
Jac Berrocal is a 1946-born musician (trumpet player), poet and sometime film actor who came of age in the ‘70s Paris improv scene, where the boundaries between music, art and theatre were porous and begging to be breached. Inspired by bebop, chanson, free jazz, beat poetry, early rock ‘n roll and myriad Eastern influences, and with an iconoclastic, anything-goes approach to instrumentation and technique that would later align him with post-punk sensibilities, Berrocal blazed an eccentric and un…
