Artist Andrzej Steinbach's debut album includes two pieces of music, »Wartehalle« and »Behörde«, which he recorded in mono at the Leopold Hoesch Museum in Düren in early 2024.
Steinbach converted an object from his collection into an instrument. A contact microphone was attached to the metal door frame, which reproduces the natural vibrations of the frame via an amplifier and a sound transducer in a feedback loop. Using an intermediate mixer, Steinbach was able to control these charges directly …
The next book on Korm Plastics contains no photographs of the artists, no list of released records, no pictures of record sleeves, and no footnotes. It is not a hardcover, not on glossy paper and is not expensive. It’s… ‘America’s Greatest Noise’ tells the story of Ron Lessard, owner of RRRecords, a record store in Lowell, Massachusetts and, from 1986 to 2009, a record label, releasing the albums of Blackhouse, F/i, PGR, the first Merzbow LP outside Japan and many more, regional compilations, th…
So excited and honored to finally release the vinyl document of my realization of John Cage’s Rozart Mix. Back in the extremely strange year of 2020, I was approached by Wave Farm and John Cage Trust to stage a performance of this seldomly performed piece that Cage wrote for Alvin Lucier. The piece is comprised of 88 tape loops (one for each key of a piano), spliced together with multiple non-musical sounds played back on 12 reel to reel machines.
In January 2021 I spent a wonderful and intense …
*200 copies limited edition* Artist Wataru Kasahara originally hoisted the standard for destructive “th’error’py” back in the 1980s and since then he has continued to create both art and music, with Art into Life releasing an album under his Radio Embudagonn moniker in 2013. This current release is a sprawling tapestry documenting the story of the battles between the monstrous Squadron Slugmaster and a mysterious organisation called International Ill-Shaker. Kasahara began recording this work in…
*60 copies limited edition* “Whenever I go, I can't help but notice signs of a looming change. I eavesdrop on conversations of creatures big and small, and like me, they seem uneasy and uncertain about what's to come. Something is in the air, dark clouds gather, winds are shifting course. Amidst the confusion and restlessness, the voices of non-human and human worlds blend in a worrisome symphony. This piece is an ode to anticipation, to the beauty of different forms of life on the brink of the …
Surface noise is the inspiration for this recording by Anri Sala. “I wanted to compose a soundtrack that mostly sounds, when played on the vinyl, like one is only listening to the physical attributes of the medium itself: the sound of the static crackling of the vinyl played by the stylus. As if it was contact music. However, in the course of the composition…the crackling starts to evolve, gradually taking the shape of other sounds. One hears hints of percussion and sometimes even distant sounds…
** The three recent Korm Plastic books in a special discounted bundle ** Since their relaunch in 2019 as (primarily) a publisher of books, the legendary Dutch imprint Korm Plastics - founded in 1984 by Frans de Waard - has been blowing our minds with incredible volumes roughly attending the music scenes to which they belong. Three of their latest - “The Annual 2023”, “Neumusik - The Complete Edition”, and Adam Morris' "Losing It" - take this momentum up a notch. Taking markedly different approac…
Softcover, 196 pages, 21x21 cm Korm Plastics founder Frans de Waard teamed up with designer Alfred Boland for this, their latest publication, The Annual. For a long time both had wanted to publish a magazine, which eventually became what they hope will be a regular yearbook with ‘everything you never knew you were interested in’. They invited their authors (present and future) to contribute an article, which led to a wildly diverse selection. From the history of turntablism, a 1985 interview wit…

*2023 stock* Noise, an underground music made through an amalgam of feedback, distortion, and electronic effects, first emerged as a genre in the 1980s, circulating on cassette tapes traded between fans in Japan, Europe, and North America. With its cultivated obscurity, ear-shattering sound, and over-the-top performances, Noise has captured the imagination of a small but passionate transnational audience. For its scattered listeners, Noise always seems to be new and to come from somewhere else: …

Under the direction of founders Paul and Hélène Panhuysen, the building became an important center for…
*2022 stock* 'The Lennon/Ono collaborative albums were a critical part of their take on celebrity coupledom. Their first two LPs carried the series title “Unfinished Music,” a conceptual gambit with deeper roots in the aesthetic of the Fluxus art movement than in that of the British Invasion. The first set to be issued, subtitled Two Virgins, was a sound-collage set reportedly produced during their first night together. The album’s name, and the full-frontal nudity of its cover, referenced the c…

** 500 copies** Die Tödliche Doris was born out of West Berlin’s lively post-punk community in the early ‘80s. Along with Einstürzende Neubauten, Malaria, Sprung Aus Den Wolken and Frieder Butzmann, Die Tödliche Doris ranks amongst the Geniale Dilletanten – which roughly translates as “ingenious dilettantes” – who sought to democratize cultural productions beyond the grip of both Western capitalism and GDR socialism. The Geniale Dilletanten became synonymous with a free-for-all approach to music…
Smells Like Teen Spirit is premised in a haptic interrogation of each of the label's previous editions. Berlin-based and Mexico City-born multi-disciplinary artist Mario de Vega occupied the gallery space of Rumpsti Pumsti (Musik) for three consecutive days in October 2016 with a hitherto complete Tochnit Aleph catalog, sanding machine, hammer, and recording equipment. Conflating acts of "playing" with destruction, de Vega took to the recorded works and assorted media with his Spartan too…
