Current 93

Current 93 is the ongoing work of David Tibet (now known as David Michael), once a member of Psychic TV and 23 Skidoo and also the founder of Dog's Blood Order. Though the group is really Tibet's own, a family of ever changing musicians helps out with each release. The one musician to appear on virtually all Current 93 releases is Steven Stapleton of Nurse With Wound, and David Tibet in his turn has appeared on numerous Nurse With Wound releases. Members of Current 93 have collaborated with other groups such as Coil and Death In June.

Dogs Blood Rising
Reeling in the weeks -- which felt like years -- after my first Current 93 album, I had started on the difficult second C93 album, Dogs Blood Rising. Having been asked to appear on both Top Of The Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test 93 times in the same week after the release of Nature Unveiled, I realized that God was telling me that I had hit on a winning formula of Christian eschatology and Apocalyptic Christian texts over a Soundscape as cool as flies, but that I was missing the vital ingredi…
Nature Unveiled
Current 93's first and last album, Nature Unveiled dragged together my obsessions, as I had decided to make a pop album that dealt with my primary fascinations: Christian apocalyptic and eschatological Christian texts. In my speed-ridden soul and mind, I thought I was reinventing The Ronettes, and that the two long sides of Nature Unveiled were A- and B-sides of a wall of soundhogs HIT! But the reality is that I was sharing a squat in Vauxhall with little annie anxiety, and hanging out with yout…
Swastikas For Noddy
"Swastikas For Noddy is possibly, probably, maybe, or not, a seminal and sidereal masterpiece, the inspiration for 93,000 Masks On Nothings, none of which were groovy. For me, well, it was my first hallucinatory pick-nick, and the skies turned pixie red for it. I was given the album's title during an acid trip: seeing Noddy crucified in the sky, I asked God what the most inappropriate birthday present for Noddy might be. God answered me from the acid whirlwind: "Swastikas!" I recorded her in a r…
The Light Is Leaving Us All
"The Light Is Leaving Us All is one of the C93 albums that haunts me the most. I was OverMoon and Blessed to work on it with the astonishing aeonic beautiful talents of Reinier Van Houdt, Alasdair Roberts, Ossian Brown, Rita Knuistingh Neven, Andrew Liles, Aloma Ruiz Boada, Michael York, Davide Pepe, Ania Goszczyńska, and Giulio Di Mauro. Once again, the voice in the mask of one of my favorite authors, and longest colleagues, Thomas Ligotti, also joined C93. The album's title was given to me in …
The Long Shadow Falls
The Long Shadow Falls is Current 93's first-ever CD box-set, and is as beautiful as the moon! This gorgeous, elaborate, boxset consists of 7CDs, plus a 7" single, and a beautiful 48-page art-book. The Long Shadow Falls collects the 41 unknown and redreamt mixes that C93 created for two (long-ago sold-out) lathe-cut 12" releases, respectively titled The Long Shadow Falls and Why Can't We All Just Walk Away?, which were both issued in editions of just 39 copies, cut by The Bricoleur at Bladud Flie…

Invocations of Almost
**LP version on ivory vinyl** Current 93 have dreamt a new album, Invocations of Almost, using music from her FuturePast and her PastFuture, to accompany David Tibet's art exhibition, Invocations of Almost, which opened on March 9 at The Begovich Gallery in Fullerton, CA and lasted for around two months. The CD version is 59 minutes long, as it is launched on David's 59th birthday, March 5, whilst he was in LA for the official opening of his show. The music on Invocations of Almost was played on…

I Am the Last of All the Field That Fell: A Channel
"I Am the Last of All the Field That Fell: A Channel" is perhaps the most uncategorizable album in Current 93's catalog. Though it employs a vast array of musics, it strategically integrates them in new ways and dynamically adds elements of improvisational jazz to the mix. Founder and frontman David Tibet's present lineup includes regular collaborators -- James Blackshaw, Andrew Liles, Ossian Brown, Antony Hegarty, and Nick Cave -- as well as new ones: Comus' vocalist Bobbie Watson, the Groundho…

Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre
Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre’ is the latest re-issue from Current 93’s highly impressive and startlingly diverse back catalogue.  Originally released in 1994, ‘Of Ruine..’ saw Tibet and his stripped back assemblage of musicians delivering an album that was awash with simplistic charm and character, yet was as deeply and emotionally charged as anything that had come before it.Aided by the ever-present Steve Stapleton, the multitalented Michael Cashmore, and Phoebe Cheshire who provided occasio…
