Egisto Macchi

Committed musician, eclectic and generous, essentially self-taught, he has gone with vigor and emotion through all the  seasons of Italian music after World War II. The variety of experiences lived from M° E. Macchi (next to the composition, the musical organization, improvisation, electronic  music) reveals on the one hand, the extent and the extroversion of his musical interests, on the other hand, the very limits of its  production of art, that in fact remained on the margins of the history of the Italian avant-garde music.

Gli Occhi Freddi Della Paura
New remastered reissue, the only credited soundtrack appearance of Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, makes you wish Ennio Morricone had used his free improv unit for that purpose more often. Gli Occhi Fredda Della Paura, or Cold Eyes of Fear, is an Italian slasher (giallo) from 1971. The score has Il Gruppo augmented by a rhythm section and a fuzz-wah guitarist (most likely Alessandro Alessandroni). The results sound like a creepy take on 70s Miles Davis, with driving jazz beats a la C…

The Avantgarde Series
The legendary DG Avantgarde vinyl series (1968-1971) is turning 55! In order to celebrate this occasion, the series is now released on 21 CDs for the first time. The Avantgarde series serves as a historical document for a time of radical change in musical thinking and the breaking of artistic boundaries. The question "What is music?" confronted many of the composers and musicians involved in the series, and the anti-authoritarian spirit of the 1960s and 1970s was a palpable influence. Deutsche G…

Asia
*First time on vinyl* Recorded in Florence in October 1979, “Asia” represents Egisto Macchi’s musical journey across the East. In this work, Macchi describes the many faces of Asia through his unmistakable, electric style. In Macchi’s music, Asia acquires mystical, religious, naturalist, sacred, and adventurous connotations. Acoustic instruments dominate this album; among percussion, zithers, celestas, flutes, marimbas, sansas, and violins, the listener embarks on a musical journey outside the l…

While among the most singular movements of the last century, these sounds have largely remained neglected and hidden from view. When describing their efforts - Minimalism, electronic music, improvisation, and j…

E.s.p.
In Italy, the genre of documentary film has represented a particularly fertile field for a critical review of the musical contribution to cinema at least since as early as the 1950s. The Italian public television RAI used to broadcast disturbing paranoiac dramas, weird documentaries on the bottom of the sea and indigestible so-called “educational” movies. ESP was a television series produced by Rai in 1973, directed by Daniele D'Anza, and aired from Sunday, May 27 1973 to Sunday, June 17, 1973…

Towering over all his passion and commitment, is the great inner need to break down th…
