German-born composer Gottfried Michael Koenig rose to prominence - after a grounding in church music, composition, acoustics and computer techniques - in the field of electronic composition. While working at West German Radio (WDR) from the mid-1950's he developed his own techniques. From 1954 to 1964 he worked at the Studio for Electronic Music of the WDR Cologne and from 1964 to 1986 he was director of the Institute for Sonology at the University of Utrecht
