Hugh Davies

Hugh Davies (1943—2005) was a British composer, performer, inventor, and musicologist. Davies developed an interest in electronic music early: in January 1962, at 18, he visited Daphne Oram's Tower Folly studio to further his knowledge on the subject. Davies studied music at Oxford University between 1961 and 1964; shortly after completing his degree, he travelled to Cologne, Germany, where he worked as Karlheinz Stockhausen's personal assistant until 1966. One of the main activities in Davies's own work, which spanned over 40 years, was building and discovering new musical instruments, often consisting of salvaged materials, usually electronically ampl

For Hugh Davies
A unique celebration of the work of Hugh Davies, one of the great pioneers of improvised music who died three years ago. Solo recordings of Hugh from three decades ago are played back to a trio of musicians whose work has been influenced by Hugh, and they improvise around his music to create a living homage to his memory. Beautiful, strange and challenging music.

Tapestries
Hugh Davies was one of the masters of contemporary experimental music. His tireless search for musical invention and his historical accuracy led him to explore different fields in music. This one is a selection of his lesser known electronic pieces, that he choose to represent his own approach to the matter. Now that he’s not more with us this collection remains as an outstanding picture of his creativity in music. In the broader sense, as he was used to do.   16 pages booklet with liner notes b…
