The sum to infinity of a sequence is the sum of an infinite number of terms in the sequence. It is only possible to compute this sum if the terms of a sequence converge to zero. "sum to infinity" is also the second release from Gamut Inc, the retro-futuristic ensemble around composers and curators Marion Wörle and Maciej Sledziecki.
Tip! Sampler / Sampled is an album made of two interdependent parts rather than a double-album. The first part of the project, Sampler, is a trumpet solo album that catalogues the unique sounds and extended techniques that Mazen Kerbaj developed for the instrument in the past 25 years; it consists of 318 pieces ranging from less than a second to forty seconds each, and presenting different sonic materials. This catalogue of sounds works on various levels: first and foremost, it is a trumpet solo…
* 3LP Box Set + Booklet. Designed by Lorenzo Mason Studio * Morphine records presents Live In Sharjah by Praed Orchestra! If you’ve ever travelled to Egypt and wandered through its crowded streets, you probably ended up buying a cassette or a CDR of popular synth based music heard in most cabs, cabarets, or alleys around town: the almighty Shaabi. **12inch vinyl LP with handprinted covers by Lorenzo Mason Studio, Venice** Tape loops are a closed path, a cyclic river, a ring around a far planet. They’re similar to our memory, continuously reenacting an artefact that belongs to a precise point in time, brought back in a process of recall where that artifact slightly and slowly becomes imprecise and shifted. An unrested repetition carved into an old pavement, in a city where every generation leaves a new mark, a new incision and maintains an…

Quellgeister#3 was entirely recorded on an abandoned church organ in the village of Bussd, Romania. The album is the third installment in the ongoing series conceived by Austrian artist and composer Stefan Fraunberger. His research on the influence of nature on culture touches on time, periphery, memory, and transience as evidenced in his Quellgeister series. The album is an archeological sonic research on the deteriorating Organ discovered in a saxon church in Transylvania.
Upperground Orchestra is the hybrid Jazz band of Rabih Beaini and his fellow musicians Tommaso Cappellato (drums), Piero Bittolo Bon (woodwinds / electronics) and Alvise Seggi (Bass / Oud). The band returns with a new LP, years after The Eupen Tapes.Euganea is a 5 tracks LP recorded during the Musica Veneta residency, promoted by FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano) in the great context of Villa dei Vescovi. 2014 release. Final part in the Charles Cohen trilogy on Morphine Records. Featuring various works made for dance and theater productions between 1976 and 1988. Eleven tracks in total -- lovingly spread over a double LP and featuring some of the most beautiful material of the series. While in the process of recording and optimizing the old reel tapes for the initial track list, Cohen discovered a master tape that was originally prepared for an extremely limited cassette release on the Gen…
Half of Indonesia's Senyawa (the band's sole instrumentalist, Wukir Suryadi) with a solo release for Morphine. Engineered by Rabih Beaini. Art direction by The Tank Boys. The unique tone and twang of Wukir Suryadi’s homemade bambuwukir - a
hollow tube of bamboo with strings and pick ups played like a
guitar/sitar - recorded at Weltkulturen Museum, Frankfurt, by Philip
Albus in October 2015, is twisted and serrated into a pair of gripping
tracks, following an unsteady, zig-zagging and buzzing …
French composer and multi-instrumentalist Pierre Bastien delivers another entry in Morphine's increasingly diverse catalog. Active since the mid-'70s, Bastien is best known for building automated orchestras. His previous album, Machinations, was released on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label in 2012 (REPH 215CD). For this work, Bastien recycled components of his Silent Motors live set and assembled mechanical organisms -- using amplified Meccano parts, motors, fans, rattles, paper, and nails -- to gener…
Composer, improviser, and Buchla Music Easel master Charles Cohen returns to Morphine with a suite of new material. In keeping with the timbre spectrum of his semi-modular system, Brother I Prove You Wrong is built around pointillist analog tones—Cohen's cosmic "beeps and boops"—that swarm and scatter in mesmeric patterns across four sides. Moving through surrealistic textural overlays and industrial miasma, the album's nine tracks reveal a more introspective and personal side of the artist, fol…
Indonesian hardcore band Senyawa board the Morphine Records mothership in early 2015, with a stunning upcoming album "Menjadi" (doser025LP). A preview appears here in the shape of a an extraordinary album track replayed by Charles Cohen's on his Buchla Music Easel. While enjoying a few months residence in Germany, Mr Cohen conducted a ritual-esq and tonal re-adaptation - flushing the song through layers of spaced out orchestrated grooves. Meanwhile in the US, explorer of the deepest depth…
Charles Cohen uses his Buchla Music Easel to replay Indonesian hardcore band Senyawa's "Di Kala Sudah." While enjoying a few months in Germany, Cohen conducted a ritualistic tonal re-adaptation, flushing the song through layers of spaced-out, orchestrated grooves. Meanwhile, in the U.S., explorer of the deepest depths Robert Turman smashed Cohen's "Conundrums" into small bits and recrafted it in his own masterful manner. His beaten and edited version displays ability similar to Cohen's, m…
Morphine continues to take us there, this time with a full-length album from Iranian producer, composer and sound artist Ata Ebtekar aka Sote. Architectonic focuses on studies in techno patterns and aesthetics from a maximalist musical perspective, without employing orthodox beats. The focal rhythmic element is achieved with programmed pitched sounds via FM, Physical Modeling and Additive synthesis methods in a modular environment. These aural components that withstand spectral and forman…
Morphine continues to expose more destructive electronics from the U.S. underground. Four bare bones tracks from Lack that owe as much to grimy techno as they do to the late '80s industrial pioneers. "The Morphine label has developed something of a reputation for picking out intriguing talents from the USA's experimental underground, be it old hands such as Charles Cohen or newer names such as Metasplice and Madteo. The latest release from Morphine draws from this latter pool with Expect Nig…
Limited repress. Infratracts revealed. Eight outstanding tracks from the twisted minds of Philadelphia's finest. After the Topographic Interference four-tracker and the abstract head-banger Decant/Churn releases, the duo formed by Kenneth_Lay and V.Hold has established the fundamentals of a real new generation of psychedelia and wild technological freedom. This is the clear and definitive Metasplice manifesto: fist-rising -- scream if you can read it."The two EPs outlined the Metasplice sound:…
Fierce new two-track 12" from Metasplice. A couple of very well-timed destroyers on here. Bringing premium "outsider techno" onto this insider label. In a time when techno and abstract music is sounding repetitive, Metasplice continue to utilize unconventional sounds and arrangements. "Decant", being the more floor oriented track, combines groovy bits that turn into splashing immense noises and harmonies. "Churn" opens with a barrage of beautifully crafted harmonic sequences, then relentless…
