“Miki Yui (Tokyo, 1971) is an artist, composer and performer who has been living in Germany for some years, mainly in Dusseldorf, where she studied at the prestigious Kunstakademie, and in Cologne, where she first seriously started working with sounds (small sounds, as she calls them). Lastly, she has accentuated the more visual aspects of her research, which by now is characterized by the use of diverse – yet complementary – “media” such as sound itself, drawing, the written word, silence... Yui turns to reality with a looking/listening that tends to tune into each and every aspect, visible and invisible, and thus her work succeeds in including both the temporal dimension of expectation and that of memory, creating a space of apperception in which these elements blend together naturally. Beyond her three CDs, the artist has been brought to international attention for being included (the youngest of all the participants) in the important group show “Resonanzen” in 2002 in Saarbrucken, along with renowned talents such as Rolf Julius, Christina Kubisch, Bernhard Leitner, and other young artists on the rise like Steve Roden and Ed Osborne.”
