Sublime Frequencies enchant with a collection of super rare Burmese popular music dating between 1909 and 1960. Entirely gathered from dusty, almost forgotten 78s discovered by Robert Millis and Alan Bishop on their various trips to the region (now known as Myanmar), 'The Crying Princess' is like a magical portal into a another world, at least from our contemporary western perspective, and further builds on the wealth of obscure music rescued from the country on 'Princess Nicotine', 'Guitars From the Golden Triangle', and 'Music of Nat Pwe'. While influenced by the neighbouring countries of India, Thailand, China, Laos, there's a definably unique quality to these recordings, taking in early sides by Po Sein, "one of the giants of early Burmese music and theater", alongside vocal and harp music, and, later, more studio effected sounds from the '50s and 1960 featuring electric guitar.
