186 full colour book With link to animation D/L code for Ritual Year OST by Root Folk Band. Comes with seven-inch housed in screen printed hand made sleeve The late artist Dave Pearson (1937-2008) explored the rich seam of English Calendar Customs for a period of ten years between 1973-83. Pearson’s work during this period saw incredibly detailed explorations into a staggering wealth of customs from the 19th and 20th century, found across 11 notebooks and hundreds of large and small scale mixed media works.
This project honours Pearson's immense body of work for the first time through an extensive publication featuring his artwork, notes and essays. It has been devised in collaboration with Pearson's archivist and artist Bob Frith (Horse and Bamboo Theatre). The resulting publication reveals and celebrates many long forgotten characters and rituals, joining the dots of our collective cultural history through stunning long lost artwork.
Alongside the book, a new animation has been created by Chinese artist Kain Leo. This animation playfully collages Pearson’s Calendar Customs work into a lucid visionary dreamscape. The score to the film was recorded by The Root Folk Band in an old telephone repeater station high up on Shap Fell in the Lake District. The score has been pressed onto a double-sided seven inch record, included in the back of the book (as an extra option). The animation and score is included as a link and d/l code).
