Recorded during January of 2023 at Maple Studio in Berlin-Spandau, "Walks" is a collaborative effort between the musician Andrea Ermke, Andrew Lafkas (acting in the role of producer in a sense), and Bryan Eubanks (mastering). Ermke recorded several takes of her unique music, which uses field recordings made to mini-disc and mixed in real time (echtzeit!), direct to 1/4" tape at Maple Studios in Berlin-Spandau. The results are these two pieces, which Ermke likens to a "dub" version of her working method.
Andrea Ermke is a musician living in Berlin and working with samples and field recordings that she records/re-plays/re-mixes from mini disc. She is a member of groups like Sink (with Chris Abrahams, Arthur Rother and Marcello Busato) or Tree (with Burkhard Beins and Chris Abrahams). Her approach to field recording and live mixing is extremely detailed and personal, working with a constantly expanding library of recordings for over 20 years. She is a foundational member of the "echtzeit" music scene in Berlin.
The physical editions of this release are extremely limited and feature photographs of Ermke's part-time life in the Swiss Alps on the cassettes and covers and cases that are hand painted interpretations of mountain ranges done by the artist and philosopher Tim Bradley exclusively for this release. Each edition is painted/melted water colors, acryclic paint, and pen.
