Call it favouritism or prejudice or whatever, but groups who claim to be influenced by This Heat are considered a bit of a front for yours truly...and look how predictable we are: Cape Fear belongs in this list. Cape Fear is the brainchild of Laurent Perrier who once played with the band Nox and belongs to one of the better known indus acts from France.

In 1997, however, Laurent called it a day and started his solo project of which "Drift towards the heat" was the first egg. Apparently, Laurent was not a battery chicken because it took 12 years before the Frenchman came up with a successor. "Winds of the dead air" attempts to combine the ambient of the 70s with the best of Chrome (Damon Edge's band, indeed), King Crimson, Neurosis and the aforementioned This Heat.

The result is alternative rock without compromise and with plenty of room for improvisation. Even though at times it seems this music is made up of puzzle pieces that just won't fit into the framework, after a few listens it clicks...
