Eine Nacht
Deaf Lions is the recording project of T.S. Vickers who was based out of the San Francisco area. Although only active for a short period during the 1980s and early 90s, Vickers pioneered an enigmatic style of industrial / ambient utilizing early digital sampling techniques, Roland Juno compositions, and reel-to-reel tape loops. Cassettes by Deaf Lions were self-released under the Stolen Art Productions imprint, though 1987’s “Copia” saw an official label release with Al Margolis & Sound of Pig. …
Àlááfíà
Honour’s debut album is a ligament stretching from Lagos to London and to New York, curling across the diaspora and brushing the darker hues of blues, hip-hop, free jazz, ambient, gospel with Christian mythology and Yoruba folklore. As cinematic as it is painterly, Àlàáfíà is a meditation on themes of life, death and love that pulls inspiration from the poetic profundity of God, remembered dreams, unexpected casual conversations, field recordings, literature, ephemera, and personal archives. The…
Electronic Music 1960-1973

Bülent Arel's (1919-1990) work occupies a special place in the history of electronic music, with one thing being certain: Arel's work is still fresh, groundbreaking, and it always look outs for the next adventure in sound. Sub Rosa present a collection of his works here as part of their Early Electronic series. Bülent Arel was a Turkish-born American composer of electronic and contemporary classical music. He was also a devoted teacher, a sculptor, and a painter. From 1940 to 1947, A…

Divine Comédie
Super tip! Divine Comédie stands as a magnum opus crafted by two of the foremost composers of their era, boasting a musical ambition akin to Dante’s poem and its visual interpretation by Sandro Botticelli or Gustave Doré. For a long time, this triptych was presented as a two-sided work in which Bernard Parmegiani’s Hell and François Bayle’s Purgatory responded to and extended each other, guided by Michel Hermon’s voice through the listener’s imagination. Because Paradise, a mixed piece co-compos…

An Electric Storm
When White Noise’s debut album, An Electric Storm, landed on Island Records in 1969, it must have sounded like nothing else. Packaged in a striking black and white sleeve that pictured a spark of lightning streaking across a black sky, this was an album that - quite rightly as it turned out - resembled as much a scientific experiment as any conventional musical document. White Noise were first conceived when American electronic engineer David Vorhaus-- following a lecture by BBC Radiophonic Work…
Argonautika
A sound drama for tuba and electronics that constructs its own rich, twilit, rather alien, world. Only the sound of the tuba (sometimes), a few waves and a little thunder sound familiar, everything else is a mysterious presence; the electronics are not at all conventional and though much of the sound is clearly derived somehow from the tuba, it offers no foothold in a familiar place. If landscape were ever an appropriate metaphor for the product of a congeries of sounds, it would be applicable h…
Hangs A Shadow
Following up 2012’s “Wait” EP on NNA, we’re proud to present “Hangs A Shadow”, the debut full-length from Prague-via-Los Angeles musician Freddy Ruppert. These very personal recordings meditate on the loss of a loved one, and the inward struggle to retain honest memories of that person. Ruppert strives to convey through sound what words fall short of explaining; frustrations with mortality, the limitations of the human organism, and it’s inevitable battle with it’s own consciousness. Electro-aco…

*2024 stock* "leg shaking is not an easy action. or better say "non-action" as it's about moving unconsciously and always meaning negative. yes it's not easy to be unconscious and negative while the body was controlled by such a social agency, i.e. the body itself. i mean there is no naked body left. there is only the built body. so does the language. basically i think language is something generated by a body and through this body to its outer environment. the body is an energy transformer and …
