*2024 Stock* This reader brings together artistic and theoretical contributions on the instertitial nature of sound. This issue is addressed through a variety of prisms, such as format, language, politics, or new technologies. The Middle Matter is a reader which brings together thoughts on the nature of sound; its substance, specific qualities, and potential—with a specific curiosity to its propensity to occupy the spaces in-between, the instertitial gaps between different spaces, times, cultur…
The international quintet Glück combines percussionists of diverse stripes and their individual pronounced ways of playing. The five musicians are internationally renowned as soloists and with various musical outfits. An extremely sound orientated, fragile and transparent approach to their idiosyncratic percussion sets is what they all have in common. From diverse conjoint long-term projects (Vorwolf, Malatesta/Wolfarth, Misiiki) arose the shared wish to put the musical experiences made within t…
Pietra di Langa extends Enrico Malatesta’s investigation on the oscillatory patterns by stones and ready-made objects. It consists in a solid made of concrete, whose shape has been obtained by silicone casting an actual stone.
With an original text by the British anthropologist Tim Ingold:
“Who says that stones cannot speak? Most of us, if asked. We are pretty convinced that stones are inanimate objects, and that they are therefore incapable of moving of their own accord. And without movement, …
Bilia derives from the work of percussionist Enrico Malatesta. The release consists of five wooden balls (3,5 cm Ø) carved from different woods. Enrico’s very own sound comes from a horizontal approach to the percussion instruments that are, in his practice, a space for movement, where every action is also a form of exploration and listening as well as an exercise in imagination.
«Percussion instruments are round-shaped, and I utilize this simple notion as a starting point. I often apply fricti…

Luciano Maggiore - speakers, playback devices, Enrico Malatesta - objects. Different sound sketches realized and edited by Luciano Maggiore and Enrico Malatesta in Cesena, January 23rd, 2014. mMastered by Giuseppe Ielasi
Talabalàcco is the first collaboration by Luciano Maggiore and Enrico Malatesta. The pair have deliberately eschewed the process of duo improvisation, recording material independently and composing with these fragments, resulting in a refined and purposeful combination of electronic and acoustic textures. The composition unfolds episodically, appearing to deny musical structure, but maintaining an incisive impact as its chapters accumulate.
Bestiario is a series of short Enrico Malatesta compositions for acoustic percussions, recorded live with no overdubs or editing; these pieces are meant to explore a multi-directional sonic dimension, still keeping a high level of tension. All the studies in the series feature extremely dense micro-structures, broken rhythms and fast tempi. The third and last volume of the series is composed by two pieces for cymbal, frame drum, bow and the crackling effects between the cymbal's edge and the ski…

Enrico Malatesta (1985) is a percussionist active in the field of contemporary music and his personal research is aimed to extend the sonic and multi material possibilities of percussion instruments through simple gestural techniques, able to realize complex polyrhythmic thicknesses and multiple information that exist between performer, space and instrument. Masterpiece! "It’s overwhelming. Electroacoustic/acousmatic/gaussian/binaural/phantom organ/air conditioner pioneers Entr’acte have just simultaneously tossed out so many new releases that it’s difficult to know where to start. The only means to resolve this complex decision is to turn to my Metro horoscope, which tells me that I should consider listening to more Giuseppe Ielasi. It’s such a useful, UK-wide public-transport-based newspaper sometimes. In this release, Ielasi is taking a well-earne…
Here’s a new 7″ from the ‘Bestiario’ series by Italian percussionist Enrico Malatesta. Bestiario is a series of short compositions for solo acoustic percussion, recorded live with no overdubs or editing. Using extremely dense micro-structures, broken rhythms and fast tempi on a very reduced percussion set, those pieces are meant to explore a multi-directional sonic dimension, while keeping a high level of tension.
7″ record, black vinyl (cut at dubplates & mastering, berlin), printed labels …
First vinyl effort for this italian percussionist and first wax for second sleep too.Living in Ravenna, Malatesta studies percussions at Conservatory in Bologna. Although his pitch is strictly academic, what always impressed me was his extreme physicality and punk attitude he has in everything. He collaborated with Christian Wolfarth, Lorenzo Senni, Seijiro Murayama. What Enrico offer here are two side of fast and dynamic structured pieces, decise hissing sounds collide with more delicated…
There is not a lot to say when a young talented percussionist meet one of the master of improvised music, also percussionist ; we can just sit and listen what happens. this is what exactly did the guys at cosabeat studio during "mirrors" recording session. the result is incredible. you can really feel the musicians concentration and then understand the importance of every sound they created. this is a focused, brilliant, top class "sound dialogue" between two of the most dedicated artist i …
Presto Records expands to the world of cassettes, or perhaps that should be 'limits to the world of cassette'? Inside there is a code mentioned by which you can get digital access to the material, which is a great move. Enrico Malatesta is a percussion player, who has worked with Claudio Rocchetti, Eugene Chadbourne, Tristan Honsinger and loads of people I never heard of. Here he plays 'handmade china, classical bass drum', without overdubs. Twenty-six minutes of improvised drum sounds. Its hard…
