Quartet Records (in collaboration with GDM and Universal Music Publishing Italia) and Goodfellas proudly present the definitive remastered edition of Ennio Morricone's groundbreaking score for La Classe Operaia Va in Paradiso (The Working Class Goes to Heaven, 1971). Directed by Elio Petri and starring the unforgettable Gian Maria Volonté in his Palme d'Or-winning performance, this incendiary social drama follows a factory worker's radical awakening after a horrific accident - with Morricone's score serving as its revolutionary heartbeat.
Morricone crafted one of his most daring and iconic works here, blending avant-garde experimentation with raw, industrial power. The legendary track "Metamorfosi" plunges listeners into a psychedelic abyss of fuzz-wah guitars and chaotic improvisation, channeling the radical spirit of Gruppo D'improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. Yet the score also delivers unexpected beauty - lush orchestral passages crash against pounding mechanical rhythms, while a haunting violin solo gives way to explosive psych-rock breakdowns. This intoxicating mix of elegance and anarchy became so influential that John Zorn paid tribute in his 1986 Big Gundown project, with Vernon Reid, Bob James, and Diamanda Galás reinterpreting Morricone's work.
Originally released on a rare promotional LP in 1971 (now a prized collector's item), the soundtrack gets its ultimate presentation here:
