The classic 1975 Italian thriller Gatti rossi in un labirinto di vetro (Eyeball), directed by Umberto Lenzi (Spasmo (RED 216XRAY-LP, 1974)), features a truly pleasant and entertaining score by the great Bruno Nicolai (The Case of the Bloody Iris (1972), The Red Queen Kills Seven Times (RED 209LP, 1972)), with an authentic '70s Italian cinema feel to it and a catchy main theme that is definitely one of his best. Another giallo ace on Dagored. This is the first release of the complete soundtrack on vinyl. Limited edition of 1000 "splatter" colored LPs.

"A much warmer soundtrack than you'd expect from its creepy cover image – and another feather in the cap of Italian maestro Bruno Nicolai – proof that he'd learned some of his best lessons from frequent partner Ennio Morricone! Nicolai's style here has some great Morricone-like touches – a sense of space and lightness in the melodies – so that things often sound sweet, even when supposedly spooky – almost an undercurrent of Euro erotica that holds up wonderfully, even away from the images on the screen. The main melody has a pronounced piano part that steps out nicely amidst some fuller strings – and there's also a bit of harpsichord too, used with a tinkling, sparkling sound that's totally great. Light horns step into the mix at times too – and the production approach has a great way of isolating some of the best instruments, then ringing them up together." Dustygroove
